London Printed for John Partridge and John Rothwell. This pamphlet has been completely rebound in half green leather with marbled paper covered boards, and gilt titles to spine. Measures approx 20.5cm x 15.5cm x 1cm.
There is a hint of a twist to base of spine. Internally, there are modern endpapers and blanks to the front and rear (and additional blanks have been bound in to maintain the integrity of the binding).
The endpapers/blanks, are foxed/browned with occasional marks. Bookplate to inside front board (Thomas Francis Fremantle).
The frontispiece is a little tatty to edges and has a tear with a couple of crude repairs to reverse. Small crude repair to reverse of last leaf.
Grubbiness and staining (bit heavier in places and to reverse of last text leaf). Chip to one leaf, affecting couple of letters. Thumbed and outer page edges are bumped and a bit tatty (see photos) with creases. Coat of Arms' leaf, title page, (5)-31.Unlawfull Oathes and Execrations and Scandalous acts.. With the start of the English Civil War in 1642 he became the first Captain-General and Chief Commander of the Parliamentarian army, (the Roundheads). However, he was unable and unwilling to score a decisive blow against the Royalist army of King Charles I. He was eventually overshadowed by the ascendancy of Oliver Cromwell and Thomas Fairfax and resigned his commission in 1646.Ordre-to-print at end of leaf D4r.
