This is a Rare Civil War Soldier's Officer's Cape Pin of The Unknown Soldier. Documented in Howard Crouch's book: "Civil War Artifacts" (page 173). This particular pin is that of the "unknown soldier". It was proudly worn by a soldier who most likely had acquired it from a sutler, as these were not government issued.
More than likely made of brass as most types of pins were back then. It measures 1 1/4" inches tall by 1" inch wide. Great details on the face and top half of jacket. Governor's Antiques and Architectural Salvage has been in business for over 45 years.
