Very Rare 1/4 Plate Daguerreotype Early CIVIL War Soldier Kepi & Velvet Coat
VERY RARE 1/4 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE - EARLY CIVIL WAR SOLDIER - KEPI & VELVET COAT - If you are a Civil War image collector, you certainly recognize how rare daguerreotypes of any type are extremely rare and valuable. You are viewing an amazingly rare and early war quarter plate daguerreotype of a soldier captured inside a more traditional photo studio setting. In fact, this early image of a soldier has him outfitting himself in a rare velvet jacket. The Union Army may not have had standard issue uniforms at this point for all their soldiers. He does wear a traditional Union Kepi. The quarter plate was resealed See my last listing photo. Please see the notations on the P90 archival tape on the backside of the plate; the image was resealed in 2017.
CONDITION : Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The quarter plate daguerreotype still retains nice contrast, tonalities and sharpness.
Yes, this plate was rinsed and resealed by the previous owner and does contain a number of scratches that are consistent with age. Notations are included on the reverse of the resealed plate.
The full leatherette case has a nicely restored leather hinge, both working clasps and a wonderful red velvet pillow adjacent to this soldier's portrait.
