VINTAGE NICE FRAME LARGE OIL PAINTING WOUNDED CONFEDERATE SOLDIER ON HORSEBACK. The featured item represents an original oil on stretched canvas painting that measures approximately 38" x 31 3/4" with the frame. The visible image area is about 29 1/2" x 23 1/2".
The artwork depicts a scene with a Civil War cavalry soldier, likely a Confederate one, on a horse running on his last legs. The horse is at a dead gallop (all 4 feet off the ground) and the soldier appears to be mortally wounded, dropping his sword and about to fall of soon. There is no signature found on the front of the canvas. The verso is signed with "WS WYETH S003". Could be an inventory number and referring to either the artist or the name of the soldier.I have no evidence of any possible connection to some of the famous Wyeth family artists. Nevertheless, a truly gorgeous and well executed piece. The item comes in overall good condition with no major damages found.
There are some scuffs, chips and cracks on the ornate frame but nothing significantly bad. No rips or tears found on the canvas but there are some crackling developed on some areas. However, the paints appears to be well bonded and not flaking or chipping.
